A survey of the best places to see in the new year has seen a break to a property in Spain come out as a great way to spend the holiday.

According to a study carried out by comparison website Skyscanner, Spanish destinations such as Alicante and Malaga are included in some of the best places for Brits to welcome in the new year, making Spain the overall most popular country for a new year getaway.

Staying in a property in Spain with a group of friends is a perfect way to bring in 2010 and without the hassle of having to get everyone into the same hotel, visiting a holiday home in the country could prove a stress-free way to celebrate.

Commenting on the results, travel editor at the website Sam Baldwin said: "The British have long had a love affair with Spain, so it’s not surprising that it was the most popular country to spend new year in overall while Paris, Amsterdam, London, Edinburgh and Dublin were always going to rank highly, being known for their massive new year celebrations."
