Getting to your holiday home in Spain’s popular Balearic Islands during the winter months is about to get easier after three major airlines announced they are increasing flights to the holiday hot spot.

British Airways, easyJet and Monarch have all expanded their winter schedules to Mallorca for 2012/13 and Ibiza now has its first direct winter service from the UK.

The improved access is part of the Balearic government’s drive to promote its islands, particularly Mallorca, as year-round destinations that offer culture, golf, Spas, fiestas, shopping and fine cuisine.
British Airways was the first to show its hand back in June. Surprisingly, in winter 2011/12 the airline did not have a single direct flight from the UK to the Balearics but this year the flag carrier has made the decision to extend its twice weekly flights from London City Airport direct to both Mallorca and Ibiza throughout the winter season. Then in August, EasyJet announced it was adding a twice weekly (Wednesday and Saturday) Glasgow to Palma route to its already healthy winter flight schedule. Now travellers from London Gatwick and London Stansted can fly to the Island daily and in the regions travellers can choose from twice weekly services from Bristol, Liverpool and now Glasgow.

If you’re looking for a property in a sought after spot in Mallorca, Taylor Wimpey Spain’s new Cala Estancia development of six three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments could be the answer. In Cala Estancia bay next to Portixol, it’s conveniently just 10 minutes from the centre of Palma and five minutes from the airport. Ground units have gardens while penthouses have terraces with views of Palma cathedral, the Bay of Palma and Tramuntana mountains. It’s 500 metres to the nearest beach but direct sea access is just 100 metres away.
