Anyone looking to relocate or purchase a property in France may want to consider the fortress city of Loches.

Dotted with castles, dungeons and medieval buildings, Loches is steeped in history. Situated in the Indre Valley, the city is also close to what FranceGuide describes as "the most beautiful village in the world".

Just a few kilometres away is the small town of Montresor, which could provide a nostalgic setting for buyers looking for property in France. In the village are white-tufa or half-timbered houses alongside semi-troglodyte dwellings – which are overseen by an ancient fortress and its Renaissance chateau.

The building materials used to make many of the houses were obtained from the Vignemont tufa quarries, where an illuminated 600-metre wall details the history of the white stone and how it came to be used.

Loches lies in the west-central region of France and is home to around 7,000 inhabitants.
