Now could be the ideal time to snap up a ski pad in Bulgaria, after a leading agent there confirmed that prices in the country’s largest ski resort were the lowest they had been since the market downturn.

Bulgarian Properties, which sell property all over Bulgaria, said during the second quarter of 2012 prices in mountain resort of Bankso reached the lowest levels they have been since the beginning of the crisis, making it the cheapest holiday resort to buy property in the country. The agent also confirmed that the cheaper prices have been driving demand in Bansko, even during the summer months, and that there has also been renewed interest in the other ski resort of Borovets.

According to Bulgarian Properties’ data, the average listing price of apartments in Bansko in the second quarter of this year stayed the same as Q1, at €574 per square metre, while deals were being concluded at an average price of €490 per square metre compared to 465 per square metre in Q1.

In Borovets the average listing price of apartments in the last quarter was €818 per square metre with deals being concluded at an average of €600 per square metre.

Another interesting sector of the market is rural houses, which sold for an average price of €17,000 in the second quarter of this year with the last few months seeing more deals compared to the previous quarter. Buyers were mainly interested in rural houses near Bourgas, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Veliko Tarnovo. There was also interest in the area of Yambol which offers a good selection of refurbished properties at bargain prices. There is also interest in regulated plots of land in villages close to big cities, where young families prefer to have a house built to their own spec.
