Stay in property in France for the Cartier Foundation's voodoo exhibitionHolidaymakers staying in property in France this summer might want to make a visit to the Cartier Foundation in Paris for a unique exhibition.

The Vodun: African Voodoo display will run until September 25th and showcases a range of objects relating to the ancient practice, some of which were picked up by art dealer Jacques Kerchache on trips to Benin, where voodoo is believed to have originated.

Visitors staying in property in France can see statues and sculptures decorated with pottery, bones, ropes and shells and covered with a mixture of palm oil, powder and earth.

Calling the pieces "strange and uncanny", the Cartier Foundation says they "emanate qualities of tension and foreboding", adding that "their ambiguous aesthetics are closely linked to their role in both protecting their owners from danger and harming those responsible for their difficulties".

Exhibition curator Leanne Sacramon recently told ARTINFO France that one of the aims of the exhibition is to focus on the shapes of the sculptures themselves, rather than providing significant amounts of written information on each relic.

She said this approach pays homage to Mr Kerchache's own preferences for displaying art.
