The Rugby World cup ticket sales have hit the one million mark this week, leaving just a third of the tickets available. Three matches have already completely sold out.

The surge in ticket sales comes as the final ticketing phase took place, and the remaining tickets went on to the market. The organisers of the tournament yesterday revealed that the sales figures make up 63% of tickets available. An estimated 100,000 tickets have sold in the last three days alone.

The All Black matches have been an obvious success, but tickets are also selling well for some of the visiting teams. The France Vs Canada match has sold out completely and there are only seats available in one category for the Ireland Vs Italy and South Africa Vs Samoa games. As well as the France Vs Canada game, the finals and New Zealand Vs France have also sold out.

Martin Snedden, chief executive of tournament organisers for Rugby New Zealand 2011, started “This has been a tremendous start to our final ticketing campaign, and we are thrilled with the way fans in New Zealand and around the world have responded”.

It is thought that ticket sales will bring home $268.5 million.
