The Minister of Communications and Works, Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, today launched the ‘Grand Road Safety Project’. The project aims to make Cyprus the safest holiday destination for locals and tourists alike, when it comes to road safety in the Eastern Mediterranean.

It is said to be the biggest road safety project in the region, and was launched via a special ceremony. The ceremony was organised by Click newspaper, Reaction (a youth organisation for road safety), the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and the Road Safety Council.

The project is running from June 1st to August 31st and will feature television campaigns and information campaigns, both promoting the importance of road safety. The organisers have revealed that there are over a million brochures to be given out, available in various languages; these will be handed to tourists and locals.

Road safety is seen as a complex issue in Cyprus, with the ministry saying that although proper roads and vehicles are necessary to improve safety, it is also paramount that people using the roads do so with the proper conduct. The Government are wanting to make road safety a driving attitude rather than a driving hassle.
