Rome welcomes its independent film festivalThe Roma Independent Film Festival (RIFF) is the most respected and popular cinema event in Italy’s capital city, according to whatsonwhen.

It features more than 80 international movies shown at some of the Rome’s most prestigious theatres and cinemas.

For film enthusiasts with a real passion for the industry, finding a property in Italy could be the best way to enjoy the independent film showcase.

Amateur filmmakers who submit work to the competition could be in with a chance of winning €50,000 (£45,000) and the opportunity for their production to be shown in cinemas.

The event takes place until March 19th and has been described by whatsonwhen as "a cultural event that is unmissable for anyone with a passion for innovation".

It also features short movies by students, an animation category and international documentaries.

The RIFF Awards include the Corti in Luce Award – offering theatre distribution – and the New Vision award, granted to the most talented emerging director.
