A rare Gluck performance awaits those who stay in property in Italy this summerHeading to property in Italy this July could allow true music-lovers to experience something a little out of the ordinary.

Christoph Willibald Gluck was an 18th-century composer, born in Erasbach in 1714 and who travelled around Europe, stopping in Vienna and Milan.

His opera Orfeo ed Euridice was first performed in Vienna in 1762, but was also revised a number of times, including in 1774.

It is this revision which is to be presented in the Valle d’Itria in Puglia as part of the 35th local festival.

For music enthusiasts, the reasons to head to property in Italy for July 16th’s opening night could be boosted by Puglia’s tourism authority’s assertion that the 1774 version being presented is "absolutely unpublished".

The XXXV Edition of the Valle d’Itria Festival is also to feature a variety of other musical works, including pieces from composers including Haydn, Rossini, Cagnoni and Strauss.

Cagnoni’s King Lear, his final work of composition, is one of the performances on the agenda for the event.
