People are more prepared to cut back on the length of their holidays to save money rather than sacrificing the quality of a break, it has been noted.

According to travel firm Thomson and First Choice, as well as putting the quality of a break above how long they jet off for, people are also prepared to make changes to other aspects of their life in order to save the cash for a getaway.

"Whatever people are giving up – be it moving house, or a new car – they are not giving up their summer holiday," said a spokesperson for the travel group.

Figures from Thomson and First Choice showed that out of 1,000 people surveyed, 80 per cent said they are still planning on taking a holiday in 2010, despite the recession.

Brits searching for some summer sun may find a Spanish property break the best kind of getaway to take and the country’s close proximity to the UK could also make it a good choice – especially if people are following the trend of the survey and taking a shorter holiday.
