Culinary delights await those who stay in property in Spain's capitalGastronomes seeking property in Spain may want to head to Madrid, which has been described as the nation’s "culinary centre".

Ben Curtis, editor of expats’ blog Notes from Spain, explains that many different regional styles of cuisine are represented in Madrid.

As a result, people staying in property in Spain‘s capital city can also expect to taste the produce of Andalusia, Extremadura and Asturias.

"The quintessential Madrileno dish is Cocido – a bowl of rich pork broth for starters, followed by a main dish of chickpeas, cabbage, and meat," Mr Curtis says.

But he adds that, with this meal typically served around lunchtime, there may be the need for a siesta once it has been consumed.

In terms of bars and nightlife, Mr Curtis suggests the Malasana neighbourhood, which is off the tourist track but has a vibrant and youthful crowd.

Here, both traditional and more modern bars cluster together, with action centred on the Plaza Dos de Mayo.
