Property in Spain and in northern Africa offers the ideal chance to escape the UK and use up some of the millions of annual leave days left before December 31st, suggests ABTA.

The travel association explains that there are more than 13 million days of holiday still to take across the UK workforce as a whole.

At the equivalent of nearly 36,000 years, the organisation stresses that it is time for Britons to "use it or lose it" if their holiday year-end is aligned with the calendar.

Spokesman Sean Tipton suggests heading to property in Spain or north Africa to get some sun.

In particular, the Canary Islands – themselves located off the north-west coastline of the African continent – hold the promise of "great temperatures".

With the recent harsh winter weather conditions seen in the UK, Mr Tipton adds that the coming three weeks could be a prime time to fly out to such destinations and use up some remaining leave entitlement.
