Property in Portugal remains a popular option for Brits looking for holidays where they can "fly and flop", according to one air flights comparison service.

Nadine Hallak, spokesperson for Cheapflights, says that Spain is a well known destination for fly and flop breaks.

However, property in Portugal has also long been popular among Britons looking for an easy break – and continues to attract interest.

The trend "shows no sign of slowing", Ms Hallak says, with the beautiful beaches and warm weather of both Portugal and Spain said to be driving forces behind their popularity.

She also suggests that Britain’s own infamous weather is a further force behind why many UK residents choose to go overseas for their holidays.

With unpredictable and often unfavourable weather conditions in the UK, the sun, sand and heat of overseas destinations provide a solution for Britons "still searching for that sun and beach holiday", Ms Hallak explains.
