A strong pound could drive interest in property in Portugal higherVisitation numbers to property in Portugal could rise off the back of a stronger pound, it is suggested.

Ian Bradley, spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, lists "places like Spain and Portugal" as eurozone destinations that could gain in popularity thanks to changing exchange rates with the UK currency.

"People are always looking to go places where there's a good deal to be had and in the eurozone I think that there is something that is going to be attractive," he says.

The impact of exchange rates is not only on the cost of property in Portugal itself, but also has an effect on the cost of living once there.

Food and drink could both seem "a lot cheaper", Mr Bradley suggests, in the climate of a stronger pound.

Meanwhile, the shorter flights compared with destinations outside of Europe help to lower the price impact of passenger fuel duty.
