With the prospect of a long weekend in spring 2011, thanks to the royal wedding on April 29th, holidaymakers might want to head to property in Italy to make the most of the extra day off work.

Thanks to the bank holiday to mark the wedding on the Friday and the early May bank holiday the following Monday, there are four days during which many people will receive the day off without having to take annual leave.

Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall suggests European destinations as an ideal short-haul destination for a few days out of the country.

His comments could have many people considering property in Italy as a venue to spend some time in the Italian spring sunshine.

"It will be warm, but not too warm; it will be spring everywhere and you will have early summer temperatures," Mr Hall says of European destinations as a whole.
