The city's local government has launched a virtual tour of Venice's canals on Thursday (February 17th) AFP reported.

According to the news provider, the website makes use of 360-degree high-definition photos to create a visual picture of the waterways, which those planning a stay in property in Italy can use to plan their route around the city.

Roberto Panciera, a tourism official at Venice city hall, commented: "It's another part of a project that is well-suited to the specificity and uniqueness of Venice, which has to be visited in an intelligent way."

The website also provides maps of some of the city's indoor attractions, such as the Museum of Natural History and Doge's Palace.

Users can also view a number of classic routes for tourists that take in a selection of Venice's best-known attractions.
