Portugal property in the Algarve area has been recommended as a prime holiday home investment and rental opportunity, with a temperate climate and some of the country’s best golf courses adding to its appeal, Halifax International reports.

Managing director of Unique Living Serge Cowan told the website: "Prices have never been so competitive, so those buying now will own a home that in a few years time will have almost certainly shown a profound increase in its value."

Mr Cowan added that the easy accessibility of the country from the UK should be another bonus considered by potential Portugal property investors.

Tourist agency VisitBritain recently admitted that while the popularity of British resorts has increased during the recession, the country still cannot compete with the guaranteed hot weather offered by Portugal property during the summer months.
