Anyone with Portugal property now has a new way to keep tabs on their home in the sun.

Internet search engine Google has announced that it has expanded its Street View program to include several new countries, meaning Portugal property can now be viewed from on high and at street level.

Google product manager Stephen Chau said: "I have relatives in those countries I don’t get to see nearly as often as I would like.

"Now, not only can I finally give them the good news that their countries have Street View, but I can re-live my past visits with them."

The news will also be of interest to Portugal property owners, who will now be able to check up on their dream home from the comfort of their own front room.

Other countries now included in the Google Street View programme include Taiwan and Switzerland.

Music-lovers with homes in the Algarve would be well-advised to get their dancing shoes ready for their Portugal property trip, following the announcement that electronic pioneer Fatboy Slim will play a gig in the region later this year.
