Primark is a brand that is extremely well known around Europe, not just in the UK. The Irish brand opened two pilot stores in Portugal in 2009; one in Porto and the other in Lisbon. These two major cities are frequently home to an influx of foreign tourists and visitors who know the brand and it was therefore an obvious choice to test the waters in these cities.

Two years on and the stores have been a success, so further distribution of the Primark brand is required. The next city on the list is in the ever popular Algarve, or Aqua Portimão to be more precise. Aqua Portimão is a large shopping centre that opened in the Algarve on 13th April 2011, comprising of food halls, shops and of course, a huge Primark store which employs 196 people and takes up 9% of the whole shopping centre!

Primark plan to carry on their expenditure and plans for more stores are already being organised. So if you are in Portugal or thinking of moving, don’t worry about getting home sick, soon there will no doubt be a Primark in every major city of the country!
