Property in Portugal could allow access to some economical entertainmentCash-savvy travellers could find property in Portugal helps them to benefit from lower prices than in other European holiday hotspots.

Despite its long-term reputation as a popular holiday destination, the Algarve ranks favourably in terms of some common vacation activities and the prices charged for them.

Notably among these is an hour’s pedalo ride, which costs around £5.40 according to a survey from Post Office Travel Money.

In Cyprus, Brittany and Majorca, the same hour would cost twice as much or more, with Cyprus the most expensive of the 12 surveyed destinations.

"There is plenty families can do to avoid getting stung on holiday," says Post Office head of travel money Sarah Munro.

Property in Portugal could also provide an economical base for a trip to a water park, with the nation ranked mid-table at less than £65 for a family of four, two-thirds of the cost faced in Cyprus.

The attractions of Aqualand Algarve, the Portuguese water park surveyed, include the country’s highest kamikaze slide and Banzai Boggan, a 23 m slide that leaves riders skimming across the surface of the pool on a water sled.
