Owning property in Spain could provide peace of mind that it will be up to scratchBritons looking for a hassle-free holiday may want to consider buying property in Spain in order to avoid the risks of rented accommodation.

Online travel firm HolidayExtras has published the findings of its research into the elements of a holiday that most often go wrong.

Given this year’s industrial action and natural disasters – such as the eruption of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull – it may come as no surprise that one in five travellers list flight delays as a serious problem.

However, accommodation – including problems such as night-time noise and room location – ranks highest of all with 25 per cent of the vote.

The result could inspire some holidaymakers who have experienced problems in the past to consider buying their own property in Spain, in an area they know suits their tastes.

“We Brits tend not to enjoy making a fuss, often putting up with extremely bad service before we’ll complain,” says HolidayExtras managing director Mike Whiting.
