Family holidays just got a whole lot better for Gary Fyfe and partner Rachel, who completed on a Spanish holiday home in May, just in time for the start of the summer season.

During a five-day visit to the Costa Blanca in April, the Edinburgh couple were able to find their ideal property, pay a deposit and get everything in place for completion, which took place just a month later on 17th May.

“Incredibly, we arrived on the Orihuela Costa with a shortlist of properties on the Monday and left on the Friday with a property reserved, power of attorney in place and my NIE number all arranged,” said Gary. “Our agent at HomeEspaña was not only helpful during the viewings, but ensured the buying process went like clockwork, which was especially important given our limited time. We came intending to buy an apartment but whittled down our top three to townhouses, and after second viewings on the Wednesday, made our final decision and put down a reservation deposit.”

Gary and Rachel have bought a two-bedroom townhouse in the La Florida area, five minutes south of Torrevieja and next to Punta Prima. The property has three floors, including the solarium which boasts panoramic views of the Mediterranean, and comes with access to a shared pool. The couple paid just €90,000 for it, excluding taxes and notary fees.

“The property is in a quiet residential area but the beach is still only a 15-minute walk away, with amenities, including restaurants and bars, equally convenient,” added Gary, who already had friends with second homes in the same area. “Another bonus was the furniture that was included – it’s all high quality, thanks to the previous owners being Norwegian!”

Gary is due back in Spain in June, to collect the keys and sort out his bank account, and then he’s returning with Rachel and her daughter Isabel for a two-week holiday in August, followed by another week in October. “We want maximum usage from it,” said Gary. “And it’s convenient to get to for us. We can fly from Edinburgh to either Alicante, which is a 45-minute transfer and has ample fights, or to Murcia-San Javier, which is just 20-25 minutes away, although the flights are less frequent.”
