A property expert has said that a good Normandy property could be purchased for the same cost as an average UK home.

Karen Tait of French Property News commented that for the cost of a UK home in 2008 – which according to Nationwide was £156,828 – the equivalent price in euros would be more than enough to pick up an average French home in many regions, including a Normandy property.

She stated that an example she was able to find for sale was that of a two-bed riverside apartment in the Norman town of Cabourg for €160,000 (£142,000).

Such a price would be slightly cheaper than the average home in Norfolk, based on the most recent Land Registry figures for England and Wales.

Those buying Normandy property can enjoy a number of events while in the region.

These include the Foire de Paques funfair in Caen, which runs from Easter and the Les Equi’days equestrian contest in October, which also takes place in the town.
