Good news for visitors and residents of property in the Caribbean. A new ferry service is close to opening, with just three months to go. The new ferry route will travel between Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

The service will also offer weekend trips to Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua, St. Martin and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The service is to be run by L’Express Des Iles who already offer a less frequent service, however are branching out due to the high demand for more frequent charters.

The introduction of the new service has been welcomed by Simon Walsh, President of the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association. Walsh believes that the service will give increased access to the French market. It may also mean the US is easier to reach via extension. There is a large French market in the Caribbean, however many people do not go there due to it lacking accessibility.

Walsh added “With this new ferry system, let us hope that we are making a step in the right direction and with 137 passengers coming in three times a week, it does open up the French market.”
