Moorish history is a theme that is celebrated in August on the Algarve, when the village of Cacela Velha comes to life with the ambience of days of yore.

The festival focuses on a range of food, culture, music and crafts, with a traditional Souk (street market) as a centrepiece of the commemorations of the medieval times when the region was occupied by the Moors.

Such an event offers a chance for Algarve property seekers to enjoy forms of dance, cuisine and culture they may be unfamiliar with.

Foods to try include harina (a type of soup) and chicken and almond pasties.

While some may wish to invest in Algarve property somewhere small like Cacela Velha, others might consider the regional capital Faro.

Earlier this month the Chicago International Travel Examiner commented on the various attractions of the city, noting that these include the Moorish city walls, the cathedral and the Infante Dom Henrique Archaeological Museum.
