It’s hard to think that low cost airlines can get any cheaper but somehow they seem to continue to do so…

Look at a flight offered by Jet2u as an example: Edinburgh to the Algarve for £34.99 – one can hardly drive to the corner shop for that! Then there are many, many more low cost airlines serving Portugal with fares as good if not perhaps better: Easy-jet, Ryanair. Thomson Fly, bmibaby – these are just a few, and the list is endless.

It’s no secret that the Algarve is the most popular destination for British tourists. The irresistible combination of good weather and great beaches has drawn Brits to the place for many years now. And that looks set to continue, with the budget airline Jet2 now flying into northerly airports in the UK too. Passengers from Blackpool, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle will now have direct flights to Faro from fares as low €39.

This can only be good news, both for those visiting families who have moved to Portugal or for those thinking of buying property and moving abroad themselves. Just a note of caution here, however. Sometimes the budget airlines can fold up their tents and disappear into the night as quickly as they came. It is always best to make sure that you can get to your property by one of the bigger airlines too – just in case!
