A stay in property in Italy could be spiced up with a holiday romanceFrom the romance of Venice's gondoliers to the epic majesty of sights like the Coliseum, property in Italy has long been a destination for loved-up couples to spend some quality time together.

However, a survey from Holiday Extras suggests that many of those heading to property in Italy and other global destinations alone might also be looking for love – or at least for a fling.

Only six per cent of holiday romances turn into a relationship back home, the research discovered.

But despite this, about one in three respondents said they were open to the idea of a holiday fling.

Six per cent of women and 12 per cent of men revealed that they have found romance while on holiday multiple times in the past.

Those who often spend time with strangers while overseas might want to keep a close eye on their passport.

Previous research from Holiday Extras found 25 per cent of people take no measures at all to protect their documentation – and are not worried about losing their ID.
