The global spotlight has been on Turkey recently as the cast and crew of eagerly anticipated new Bond film Skyfall descended on Istanbul.

The latest film in the hugely popular series signifies half a century of legendary spy action and is released later this year.

Skyfall, the 23rd film in the Bond series, is being filmed in several locations across Turkey, between the southern province of Adana and the coastal town of Fethiye, as well as in Istanbul’s historical Grand Bazaar.

Producer of the film, Barbara Broccoli explained why Turkey was chosen for the picture: “Istanbul was chosen as the venue for Skyfall to mark the 50-year anniversary of the legend in the favourite city of Ian Fleming, the author who invented James Bond in 1953.”

“We wanted to be here because it is the most magnificent place. It is an incredible city. I can’t get enough of it,” added director Sam Mendes, who spoke to the press in Istanbul after more than 100 days of film shooting.
