Understanding the culture and history of the place movers intend to relocate to is important – and learning the ancient language of Latin could be the ideal way to do this.

Teachers said intellectual rigour and analytical skills are some of the benefits of studying the subject, according to a survey from Friends of Classics.

Teresa Tinsley, director of communications at the National Centre for Languages (CILT), said: "Many modern languages are derived from ancient ones … We can also gain from learning about ancient cultures and civilizations – their history, literature and politics."

According to CILT, close to 300 of Britain’s top employers have signed up to a campaign to help young people bolster their employability by adding a language to their CV.
