Learn the language before moving to a property in FrancePeople planning to buy a property in France – or in any other non-English speaking country – should make the effort to learn the local language, it has been advised.

Stefano Lucatello, senior partner at The International Law Centre, explained that being able to speak French helps when it comes to integrating into the local community.

"People appreciate that fact that you try. It's imperative that you do that," he commented.

Mr Lucatello also suggested that anyone doing up a property in France should employ tradesmen in the area to carry out the work.

"It means that you are putting money into the local community and that will endear you to the local people as well," he added.

Earlier this month, A Place in the Sun presenter Amanda Lamb named her top five countries to buy abroad in as Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and the USA.

If her list is anything to go by, many Brits should take up a foreign language before they move.
