Those seeking Florida property bargains should make sure they do not get carried away by low prices, an expert has stated.

Chief executive of the Association of International Property Professionals Paul Owen told the Daily Mail that while there is a "lack of confidence" in much of the international market, "equally it can be a great time to buy", both in Florida and elsewhere.

"However, people shouldn’t lose their heads and forget the basic rules of safe buying abroad," he added, noting that consumers could use their power in a buyers’ market by only purchasing from those who offer some legal protection.

Using independent expertise on the legal and financial aspects is a critical move, Mr Owen said.

Florida property buyers may be keen to ensure they take the right steps to avoid suffering any pitfalls after spotting a bargain.

US property firm Findire.com recently said those buying a foreclosed Florida property should appoint an appraiser to check its condition, as there will be no seller with an obligation to ensure facilities like electricity and water are working.
