By Jason Charles – Account Manager for the Italy at Rightmove Overseas

If you’re anything like me then thinking of property in Italy automatically fills the mind with images of a beautiful Tuscan farmhouse, surrounded by neatly lined trees and a rolling green landscape. I’m sure this is the case with a lot of people as the Tuscany region regularly dominates the Rightmove Overseas search statistics for Italy. However, more recently it’s not just property in Tuscany that’s getting attention from home hunters looking to buy a slice of stunning Italy.

On the whole searches for Italy are up by 77% from last year and last month saw a rise in popularity for all regions which is rare in itself but there are a couple regions in particular that stand out.

The Lakes within Lombardy climbed a huge 36 places on the global leader board, taking them in to the top 200 most searched areas in the world on Rightmove Overseas. Nested between Milan and the Alps, the geographical location and stunning landscape of the Lakes are what sets it apart from some of its neighbours and probably contributes to its popularity amongst the British. The Lakes are accessible by car through the boarders of France and there are three airports within Lombardy so it’s a great place to purchase a stunning lake side property for the summer whilst world class skiing in the winter is only a stone’s throw away. If you’re not sure where to concentrate your search, try around the popular Lake Como?

Another highlight in March’s search stats for Italy was Sicily with the Island climbing 24 places and impressively now sitting as the 118th most popular destination globally on Rightmove Overseas. A small island that is making big waves, property in Sicily is proving popular with the British and has been featured recently on British travel and property shows. In fact, one of our Rightmove Overseas agents, Agenzia Immobiliari my House, who previously took the ‘Relocation Relocation’ TV crew around the island looking for a dream property, has recently been working with House Hunters International for an upcoming episode of their show.

The great thing about Italy, is that there is something for everyone and to suit most budgets. From a 13 bedroom castle in Lazio , stone built traditional farm houses, or beach front property, Italy has it all and remains to be one of the most searched destinations in the world for overseas property.

As the Italian account manager on Rightmove Overseas, I am very happy to be working with property agents who are specialists within their region such as; Casa Tuscany (Tuscany) , Better Property (Molise & Abruzzo), Piemonte Homes (Piemonte) Dom In Rome (Lazio) Agenzia Immobiliari My House (Sicily) and Calabria property consultants (Calabria).
