The Northern Italian town of Bergamo has a "unique Italian panorama", which may interest those looking to make an investment in property in Italy.

According to communications manager at tourism firm Turismo Bergamo Alessandra Pitocchi, the town is unique as it is split into two levels.

"The upper town is surrounded by walls and is the only one in our country settled on the top of a hill," he noted.

Many people head to the town as part of a longer journey to the Italian city of Milan, he admitted, but urged tourists to see the place as a destination all on its own.

Potentially, the town could offer Brits a bargain property in Italy, as it may not attract as many buyers as other areas and could therefore still have low prices on offer.

"The majority of people think they’ve just landed in the surroundings of Milan and our main effort is definitely to tell the people that they are landing in Bergamo which is an attractive area that can offer several holidays opportunities," said Mr Pitocchi.
