Property in France's Franche-Comte region sits among varied geologyProperty in France‘s region of Franche-Comte could allow British holidaymakers to experience a "hidden" part of the country.

Cecile Ambacher, press relations and promotion executive at Comite Regional du Tourisme de Franche-Comte, explains that the area is actually relatively easy to reach.

Once-daily Eurostar services and connections from Paris mean that Britons can head to the region she describes as "hidden France" without too much trouble.

Its cities offer accommodation likely to suit people looking for property in France with the traditional "French touch".

And its geology, while not too formidable, is varied and eye-catching, from 1,000-metre-tall mountains to waterfalls, lakes and rivers.

"The region has many traditions, good food, prices are not high and nature is at its best for walking, bird watching and cycling," she adds.

Visits to the cheese cellars and to try the region’s aged "yellow wine" or vin jaune are also recommended to place on the itinerary of a trip to Franche-Comte.
