People who stay in property in Portugal should make sure that they spend a day or two away from the beach and head inland, it has been advised.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, explained that exploring inland will give visitors a different experience of the country.
He commented: "You will often find a totally different place, a totally different atmosphere, still very traditional."
And those staying in property in Portugal may also be pleased to know that the country was rated as one of the best-value destinations in Europe in the recent Holiday Money Report published by the Post Office.
The organisation noted that prices in Portugal dropped by 49 per cent year-on-year, which was aided by sterling's rise in value against the euro.
Mr Hall added that people who head out to property in Portugal will find that "living costs are more reasonable" than previously, which may encourage more Brits to visit the southern European nation.
