Scots with second homes in Crete and Rhodes are looking forward to improved air access to their Greek bolt holes, after budget airline Jet2.com announced it is to begin flights to the two islands in May next year.

The new routes will fly from Glasgow to Heraklion on Crete’s northern coast and Rhodes. On sale now, weekly flights start from £71.99 one way, including taxes. Steve Heapy, Managing Director at Jet2Holidays, said: “Rhodes and Crete complement the destinations we already offer and together they give the people of Glasgow and the west of Scotland a fantastic choice of city, sun and ski destinations. This announcement further demonstrates our commitment to Glasgow.”

The Chania region in western Crete has become a popular second and permanent home destination with British buyers in recent years. Unspoilt villages within easy reach of the coast, such as Vamos, are particularly popular. One of the area’s most established developers is Snobby Homes, which offers new two- and three-bedroom detached homes in traditional village locations from around £110,000, including buying costs.
