The opening of a new estate agency office on the French Riviera has been hailed as evidence that the region is still in a solid state when it comes to the property market.

A feature in the Times noted that Winkworth has just opened a new base between the towns of Cap d’Antibes and Juan-les-Pins.

Cannes was described by the paper as a place where those investing in French property can enjoy regular rental returns from its many conferences and events, the most famous of which being this month’s Cannes Film Festival.

It also observed that Nice, Saint-Paul de Vence and La Colle-sur-Loup are regarded by local property experts as popular with lifestyle buyers.

One part of the region that may do particularly well in the next few years is Marseille-Provence, as it was named joint holder of the status of European Capital of Culture for 2013.

Such a situation could benefit French property buyers as prices may be boosted by the extra attention, tourism and investment the title could bring.
