Those who own French property in Lille could be interested in heading to their holiday home during December and taking advantage of the city’s Christmas markets – which have been named as some of the best in the world.

According to the Daily Mail, Lillis is "firmly inked on the mini-break map" due to its link to the UK via the Eurostar and its Christmas market could prove an ideal place for those with French property in the region to head to stock up on stocking fillers, festive food and gifts.

The newspaper noted that the market – which is held at the Place Rihour – has around 80 stalls which sell crafts from Europe as well as Russia and the US.

However, French property owners may be wise to wait until later this month to visit.

"The defining moment comes on December 19th, when Santa arrives via a dramatic ‘fall’ from the belfry of the square’s Chamber Of Commerce," said the source.

European Christmas markets are often popular places for Brits to visit at this time of year, with many being held across France.
