A travel writer has detailed a trip to France which included taking part in a cookery course teaching people the basics of creating French cuisine.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Carolyn O’Donnell told of her getaway to the area of Languedoc in France, which saw her sign up for a course run by Robert Abraham, the Midi-Pyrenees Chef of the Year 2009.

The course involved a stay in a French property which is more than 200 years old, a rambling French farmhouse which housed all ten of the course participants.

Dishes which Ms O’Donnell learnt to cook on the course included scallops with orange butter and roasted monkfish with an aubergine tartine, saffron cream mussels and the classic French dessert creme brulee.

French property owners with a taste for fine food could find the Michelin guide a useful tool for finding places to eat on their breaks to the country.
