It is still possible to find a French property for less than £150,000, it has been reported.

A number of British sellers have agreed to make their second homes available at a discount cost, meaning there are plenty of bargains around, the Times reports.

Dordogne-based estate agent Joanna Leggett of Leggett Immobilier told the paper: "Old holiday homes are being sold at a steal," giving the example of a recently renovated two-bedroom cottage in the village of Vayres in the south-west of the country that is up for sale at £98,645.

A further example is that of one-bedroom apartments being sold by Winkworth in Provence for £88,900 and a two-bedroom stone home for £125,000.

Another aspect of the appeal of French property is its accessibility from Britain.

Marketing and PR manager for Picardy tourist board Claude Chaboud said that the region has a particularly good level of access across the channel.

He stated: "From London there is the Eurostar and the ferries, so it is very, very accessible."
