France has this week been awarded to host the Ryder Cup in 2018. They beat fellow applicants Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal by vote and are now looking forward to hosting the event in seven years time. The event will be held just outside of Paris, in Le Golf National, Versailles.

It has not come as a great surprise as the close second, Spain, did not have their course built yet and it’s thought the organisers were not willing to pin hopes on the course being completed in time, given the current state of the world’s economy. The French government was backing the French application and gave it a lot of support. As each bidding country had to present financial commitments and plans for hosting the cup, the support from Nikolas Sarkozy has proved invaluable.

France has an excellent course already in place, as well as great accommodation nearby in the Palace of Versailles and the Trianon Palace. Paris can also be host to a lot of fun events to celebrate the event.

The course in France is not only a great course for players, but it also gives the spectators wonderful views of the game, especially on the last 5 holes.
