People travelling between property in France and the UK have been offered assistancePeople returning from property in France continue to be helped back to the UK as the passenger backlog from the recent volcanic activity in Iceland clears.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) is undertaking a number of initiatives to ensure that everybody who wishes to return to the UK is able to cross the Channel with the minimum of disruption.

Guidance for people with holiday homes on the continent, or who are returning from a stay in a French hotel, provides advice on reaching UK ports including Weymouth, Portsmouth and Poole.

At the French ports themselves, FCO representatives are helping to prioritise those with the greatest need to travel, such as families and the elderly.

Support is being offered by the Red Cross to help deal with any emotional or practical difficulties faced by would-be travellers.

The Red Cross team are also giving out hot drinks and blankets where necessary to help passengers feel more comfortable.

While the FCO crew are remaining in place for the present, the office reveals that queues were entirely cleared at Calais by 09:00 local time on April 22nd.
