With the Royal wedding last week, now is the time to get up to date on Kate Middleton, if you haven’t already. The future Queen – in – waiting will be the first Queen to have attended university, as well as to have had a gap year.

And where did she spend three months of her gap year…in the glorious British Institute of Florence in Italy. The aim of the institute is to promote understanding between the Commonwealth, Italy and Britain through the study of the English and Italian language as well as the history of art. Here, she attended three hours of Italian language lessons per day, Monday to Friday, and daily lessons on the Renaissance were also included in the fee.

Accommodation was arranged for Kate by the Institute, and would have cost her around £500 per month for student accommodation. The institute is set in the heart of Florence and also provides a full itinerary of cultural events for its students.

If you are moving to Italy with teenagers, this would be the perfect course for them to attend before the move, or at the beginning, as it will completely immerse them in the Italian culture and way of life, preparing them for their new life in the country. And of course, they will be able to say that they studied at the same place as the future Queen of England!
