Florida property buyers hoping to enjoy the benefits of greener energy may be interested by news that a new hybrid power plant is to be opened in Florida.

The Florida Power & Light installation will have 180,000 solar panels to harness the sunny Floridian weather to provide up to 75 MW of electricity.

At the same time, the installation will also contain a liquid natural gas plant to drive the turbines when the sun is not shining.

Located just north of Palm Beach, the station is due to come online in 2010.

The hybrid facility is expected to power 11,000 homes, meaning that Florida property buyers may be able to enjoy the benefits of clean energy.

Last month a referendum passed a change to the state constitution providing tax breaks to householders who add renewable energy devices to their homes.

Under the new law, homeowners will not be charged higher property taxes on the value of their homes for any extra worth added by these items.
