Holiday favourite Walt Disney World in Florida has been twinned with the UK town of Swindon, which could interest Brits heading for a holiday to the US state.

The town is set to be the first twin town for the world-famous family theme park, which is home to some of the globe’s best know cartoon characters, from Mickey Mouse to Donald Duck and Snow White.

Other UK towns in the running to be twinned with the park included Blackpool, Cambridge and Brighton.

The town was chosen after Swindon local Rebecca Warren sent those behind the choice a video praising her home town, which showed similarities between the Florida property holiday favourite and places in Swindon, including its well-known roundabout.

As well as Disney World, Florida is home to other parks such as Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Wet and Wild and Splash Mountain.

In 2010, a Harry Potter ride is set to open at Universal Studios, which could interest those planning on heading to a property in Florida next year.
