Visitors to property in Florida may be able to widen their flight choices from 2010, as an airport in the state is set to get an extended runway.

Earlier this week, the Panama City Bay County International Airport and Industrial District said that it has been given the go-ahead to begin extension work on the primary runway at the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

Under the proposals, the runway will be lengthened to 10,000 feet.

Airport executive director Randy Curtis said: "This is truly a major milestone for the airport project. With a 10,000 foot runway, we can handle almost any type of aircraft operations with no problem."

The new airport is 80 per cent completed, the airport developers said, and is due to be opened on May 18th next year.

When on a trip to Florida property, people may want to book tickets to popular theme parks such as Disney Land in advance to try and lower the cost.
