Property in Spain's Canary Islands could be a satisfying destination for holidaymakers looking for authentic events.

Pia Louw, travel industry director for Tenerife Tourism Corporation, explains that the island is more like five countries than one.

The north, south, east, west and interior areas each have their own sights and experiences to offer, which makes hiring a car a good idea.

Local festivals add to the reasons to take a different approach to spending time in property in Spain's popular island region; however, Mr Louw suggests that many tourists do not realise such events are taking place.

"We are trying to convince the organisers that those things are so authentic that if the tourists get to see them … they are going to be highly surprised," he comments.

Those efforts have been taking place over a number of recent years, which could make it the perfect time to return to the Canaries and rediscover their heritage and culture.
