Portugal property buyers can enjoy a month filled with festive fun during June, as some of the country’s most famous saints’ days are marked.

June 12th and 13th sees the Feast of St Anthony being celebrated, particularly in Lisbon where a large carnival takes place, with a number of ceremonial ‘marriages’ being held

Other festivals include the feast of St John (June 23rd and 24th) and St Peter (June 28th to 29th), with partying in the street and grilled sardines to enjoy.

Those who like a party atmosphere will be able to revel in it all over the country, with various activities going on at any one time.

A spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators recently noted that the appeal of Portugal has widened in the last few years, diversifying from a concentration on beaches to a greater emphasis on wine and culture.

He stated: "People are realising that Portugal does have a lot more to offer. It is becoming more mature as a destination."
