Discover the culinary delights of Rome when staying in property in ItalyPeople planning a break in property in Italy that will give them the opportunity to explore the country's capital should make sure they find establishments serving traditional Roman food, according to one journalist.

Writing for Bootsnall magazine, Jessica Spiegel picked out some authentic dishes that visitors to the city should endeavour to try.

Top of her list are artichokes, which she noted are typically served during the spring when they are in season. One of the most popular ways to serve them is stuffed with mint, garlic and parsley and slowly cooked in olive oil, which is known as carciofi alla romana.

Ms Spiegel revealed that there are many pasta dishes which originated in Rome, including all'arrabbiata and carbonara, so those staying in property in Italy should be sure to taste one of these famous meals.

She also recommended sampling the sweet desserts granita and grattachecca, both of which are made up of ice shavings with various flavours added, including coffee and fruit juice.

Last month, Wendy Holden wrote for iOl Travel that one of the best attractions to visit in Rome to escape the crowds is the Keats-Shelley House, where the former poet died in 1821.
