A cruise along some of France’s picturesque waterways offers a new way to view some of the great French property built on the riverbanks.

In Moissac, the Tarn River features a port overlooked by the Uvarium, a former centre for grape-based health therapies, along with a 15th-century mill.

While the Uvarium is now a restaurant, the Midi-Pyrenees Regional Tourism Committee reveals that the mill has made the shift in the opposite direction, now becoming a hotel and spa complex.

In Toulouse, meanwhile, the Canal du Midi and Canal de Garonne meet on their courses to the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean respectively.

On the banks of the Garonne is more great French property, including La Grave Hospital with its copper dome.

With disruption to air travel continuing due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, there are still ways to reach the south of France.

The tourism organisation explains that the Midi-Pyrenees region can be reached via road or rail, with ferry links from Dover to Calais.
